Obituary

Eva Victoria (Lodigiani) DeGrandpre, 106, of Feeding Hills, passed away March 14, 2025 at Baystate Medical Center with her daughter, Lisa DeGrandpre, by her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Paul Henry DeGrandpre.

Eva born on January 6, 1919, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Adele (Figliossi) Lodigiani. She was raised in Springfield, MA where she proudly graduated from the High School of Commerce, class of 1936.

Eva's first job was packing matches at Diamond Match in Springfield, MA. During World War II, she volunteered as a nurse's aide at Wesson Memorial Hospital in Springfield, MA. She next worked at munitions factory, Savage Arms, in Chicopee Falls, MA. When the war ended, she started at Moore Drop Forging Company where she worked as a comptometer (key-driven mechanical calculator) operator for the next ten years. Years later, she again operated a comptometer at H.P. Hood in Agawam, MA.

Eva had an indomitable spirit, combatting breast cancer in the early 1980s. In recent years, she amazed family and neighbors by her independence, continuing to drive locally.

Eva is survived by her two children, Mary (DeGrandpre) Melaugh and her husband, Edmund of Billerica, MA, and Lisa DeGrandpre of Feeding Hills with whom she lived. Eva is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Gregory Melaugh and his wife, Kristin (Innamorati) Melaugh of Chelmsford, MA and Benjamin Melaugh of Billerica. She was especially delighted by the arrival of a her two great- grandchildren, Parker James Melaugh and Makenna Lee Melaugh. She even learned how to use an iPad so she could see them online.

She was so happy to be the aunt to her nieces and nephews: Louise Shannon and her husband David of Holyoke, MA, the late Roger DeGrandpre of Hampden, MA and his surviving spouse Janice, Nina Pare of New Boston, NH; James Lodigiani and his wife Karen of Yarmouth Port, MA; Anne Beltramello and her husband David of Suffield, CT; and the late John Lodigiani. In addition, she counted herself fortunate to be part of a large extended family of loving cousins.

Eva was predeceased by her two brothers, the late Edward Lodigiani and Leonardo Lodigiani who could be counted on to complain fondly that Eva always tried to boss them around.
