Florence (Blanchard) Herlihy, born November 7 ^th , 1928, passed away Tuesday, June 30th 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born in Springfield and is the daughter of the late Fredrick and Florence (Newton) Blanchard. Florence graduated from West Springfield High School in 1945, and then St. Luke's Nursing School in 1954. She spent two years in Seattle, Washington and four years in Bethel, Alaska working as a Nurse. In 1960, she returned to Springfield and worked at Wesson Women's Hospital as a Delivery Nurse and later, Supervisor. Florence was an avid knitter, baker and sports fan. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and contributed to several charities and fundraisers throughout her life. She was a former St. Thomas CCD teacher who even kept pen pals with students to this day. She was predeceased by her husband, John Herlihy, brothers George and Fred Blanchard and her grandson Michael Herlihy. She leaves her sister, Barbara Scott and her husband Carl, of West Springfield. She also leaves her sons Sean Herlihy and girlfriend Anne Marie, Patrick Herlihy and wife Erika, of West Springfield, and John Herlihy Jr. and wife Mary of Rhode Island; her grandchildren Kimberly, Meghan, Moira, Brooke, and Patrick Herlihy and several nieces, nephews and many friends. The funeral will Thursday July 23 ^rd starting with a calling hour from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Thomas Church followed by Mass at 11:00am.
