West Springfield- Francis A. Stahelski, 88, died Friday at Mercy Medical Center. Francis was born in Westfield and lived most of his life in West Springfield. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran
who served on an icebreaker in the North Atlantic on the Bering Sea and later in the South Pacific. He was an avid member of the West Springfield/Agawam Elks. Francis loved to vacation on Cape Cod with his family. His wife Dorothea (Gelly) Stahelski died in 2001. Francis leaves two sons, Gary and his wife Kathleen of Palmer, Paul and his wife Kathryn of Easthampton, two daughters, Laurie Fiala and her husband Tony of West Springfield and Lisa Foley and her husband James of Palmer. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Chad, Trevor, Brant, Andy, Matt, Michael and Jaime and two great grandchildren Madison and Brady. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday at 12 noon followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
