WEST SPRINGFIELD
GAMELLI, FRANK 81, was called safely home on Monday, August 29, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born in Springfield February 26, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Mary (DiRoma) Gamelli, and has lived in West Springfield most of his life. Beloved husband of 64 years to his cherished wife, June, Frank was known for his great sense of humor, generous heart and passion for family and life, and was loved by all who knew him. Frank served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Wisconsin, and retired after a long career with Western Mass Electric Company. A wonderful cook, who loved preparing holiday meals and baskets for the needy, Frank was also a member of UNICO in West Springfield, the MAWAGA Club and an avid fisherman. Besides his beloved wife June, Frank is also survived by his devoted children, Sandra Smith of Ft. Myers, FL, Susan Gamelli of Ware, Frank Gamelli of Texas, Gina Ianacone of West Springfield, Dino Gamelli of Feeding Hills and Marlo Gamelli of West Springfield. He also leaves a brother David Gamelli and four grandchildren Robert, Jillian and Lincoln Blackie and Aubrey Gamelli. Besides his parents Frank was predeceased by a granddaughter Lisa Rubino and his brothers Alphonse and Augustino Gamelli. The family would like to thanks the staff at Heritage Hall Nursing Home East, especially Nancy (Betty) for the loving care and support provided. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 10:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
