Fred M. Soffen
1955 – 2011

SPRINGFIELD – Fred M. Soffen, 56 of Springfield, lost his brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 09, 2011. Fred was a graduate of Agawam High School, Class of 1974, and served one hitch with the United States Air Force. Fred enjoyed fishing with his friend Pete and watching his beloved sports and NASCAR. He loved trains and was known online as "Red Caboose", his old CB handle. He was a familiar sight around Agawam for many years riding his giant tricycle. Freddy was "green" before it was fashionable and was a master of taking bits and pieces of wood and making useful things out of them using his extensive carpentry skills. Freddy shared a love of animated movies with his father "Big Fred" and he appreciated the simpler things in life, often with a childlike sense of wonder. He is predeceased by his mother, Hazel M. Soffen, and his father, Fred M. Soffen. He leaves behind his brothers Mitchell R. Soffen of O'Fallon, IL; Andrew M. Soffen of Manchester, NH; and Matthew S. Soffen of Chicopee; as well as his sister Leila M. Soffen of Holyoke. He was also blessed to have good friends Colleen & Pete of Springfield in his life. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 12:00 Noon followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery.
