West Springfield – Frederick N. Demers, 85, died Sunday in the Holyoke Soldiers' Home. Fred was born in Springfield, grew up in Agawam and has lived in West Springfield most of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Agawam High School and 1953 graduate of American International College. He owned and operated the Frederick Demers Insurance Agency for many years. Fred served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was previous member of the Holyoke Turnverein and was involved with the Volleyball Hall of Fame with his wife for many years. Fred loved to ski, you could often find him on the slopes in Vermont "yodeling" his way down the mountain. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Patricia (O'Brien) Demers; eight children Paul, David and his wife Rhonda, Diane Clearwater and her husband Daniel, Mark, Lisa Powers and her husband David, Eric and his wife Karen, Heidi Johnstone and her husband Patrick and Tricia Barros and her husband Steve. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren, Shawnee, Shane, Cody, Carly, Zachary, Evan, Giovanna , Christina, Alex, Jill, Erin, Alison, Kelsey and Teigan. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 10:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
