Gail Lee Chmiel, 74, of Chicopee passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017.  She was the devoted wife of 53 years to Francis Chmiel; beloved mother to her two sons Bob and his wife Lori and Mark and his fianceé Renée Pouliot; her two granddaughters Marissa and Samantha; her sister and best friend Roberta Kozak and her husband Hank; her two nieces Laurie and Lisa; and her grand nephew Colin. She was born in Holyoke on November 29th, 1942, the daughter of Robert and Erline Dobbins.  She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1960.  After graduation, she went to work at Hano Business Forms where she met her future husband.  Upon the birth of her sons she became an at home mom, not only for her sons, but for the entire neighborhood.  Later in life she became a cashier for many years at Food Mart in Fairview.  Upon retiring, she enjoyed reading, gardening, going to the movies, spending time with her many friends and doting over her family.  She had a warm and generous heart who will be sorely missed. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7 PM at Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley.  A funeral home service at Curran-O'Brien will then take place Tuesday morning at 10:00 am followed by a burial at Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charities of one's choice in Gail's name.
