Genevieve C. Kowalczyk

Genevieve C. (Borsa) Kowalczyk, 95, died Monday in Mercy Hospital. She was born May 12, 1922 in Springfield to John and Mary Borsa and was the sixth of eight children. She graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1940 and then joined the military and became a WAVE in the Navy, training at the Great Lakes in Chicago. She met and married Stanley Kowalczyk in 1950 and had a son John. Genevieve was the Health Administrator for the Veteran's Administration in Springfield for 40 years and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the Polish American Veteran's Club of Wilbraham and the Pioneer Valley WAVES. She also received Special Achievement Award from the Veteran's Affairs Administrator. She loved to go on bus trips to the casino with her friends. Her husband Stanley predeceased her in 1989. She leaves her son John of West Springfield, a brother Edward Borsa of New York City, sister Nellie Duffy of Charleston, SC and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10 am. Burial in St. Anne's Cemetery in Three Rivers.
