George M. deSousa
1923 – 2013

Springfield – George M. deSousa, 89, of Louis Road, died Sunday in a local nursing home. George was born in New York City, the son of Martin and Blanche deSousa. He grew up in the Bronx and has lived in Tyringham for 14 years before moving to Springfield 46 years ago. He retired in 1973 as the office manager for the Personal Moving and Storage Company. George attended the Granville Federated Church in Granville and was a former communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Springfield and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Great Barrington. He served in the United States Army during World War II. George loved all sports especially the New York Yankees. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and baseball and softball coach. His wife Ruth E. (Pike) deSousa died in 2001. He leaves three sons Richard M. and his wife Beth of Hampden, Douglas G. of Plymouth, CT and John F. of Springfield; a daughter Lisa deSousa and her husband Joe Nisenkier of Springfield; seven grandchildren; Trista, Jared, Jake, Kate, Rachael, Noah and Andrew; a great grandson; Eben. George also leaves a dear friend Jan Cressatti. A memorial service, celebrating George's life will be held at the Granville Federated Church Saturday at 11:00am. The burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery on Friday, January 18th at 10:00am. The West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements and donations may be made to the Capital Fund at Granville Federated Church, 16 Granby Road, Granville, MA 01034.
