George W. Harris
1929 – 2018

Chicopee – George (Bud) Harris, 89, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Newton, MA son of the late George W. and Sarah Helena (Granger) Harris. He moved to Florence as a child and lived in Northampton for most of his life. After graduating from Northampton High School in 1946, he was drafted into the US Army, where he spent a year in the Occupational Forces in Japan. When he returned home, he joined the United State Air Force Reserves where he served for 23 years. After graduating from Northampton Commercial College, he started his career with Northampton Credit Union and retired from Baystate Gas Company in 1989 after 31 years. During retirement, he and his wife Jean traveled across the country in their mobile home and took some side trips to Hawaii, Alaska and Australia. They also enjoyed spending time with family in TX.  George was a mason with the Northampton Jerusalem Masonic Lodge for 60 years.  He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Jean Mae(Rogers) Harris, who was the love of his life. Their three children Nancy J. Perman, Laurajane Cymes and her husband James; and David R. Harris and his wife Kelly; seven grandchildren Amity and Jeffery Perman, Megan, Erin and Conner Harris, Kirsten and Hunter Cymes; and three great grandchildren Jadin Kies, Sidelle and Vivienne Perman. The committal service will be held in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on November 26, 2018 at 9:00am.
