AGAWAM – George D. Robinson Jr., 98, of Agawam died Tuesday, May 9, 2017. He was raised in Springfield, graduating from Technical High School in 1936. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1947 with a degree in Engineering and Business, and American International College in 1956 with an MBA. In 1965, he received a Certificate in Management Development from Rensselaer Polytechnic Graduate Center and a Resource Consultant Certificate from Northeastern University Center for continuing education. In 2001, he was awarded an honoree BA degree from Western New England College. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and worked on many A.S.T.M. and S.A.E. committees. He joined Gilbarco Manufacturing Co. in 1936 and was employed there until he retired in 1982 as Manager of Engineering. He travelled extensively in the United States as well as England, Scandinavia, Europe, South Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Canada monitoring company policy on engineering programs. He married Barbara Nowinske of Springfield in August 1940 and moved to Agawam in 1950. They relocated to Greensboro, NC in 1966 returning to Agawam in 1995. They celebrated their 65 th anniversary in August 2005 and Barbara died January 2006. George was a member of the Elm-Belcher Lodge of Masons since 1944. He was an ardent golfer and member of Forest Oaks, Green Valley, and Jamestown Country Clubs and enjoyed woodworking. After retirement, he and Barbara traveled throughout England, Europe, North Africa and Egypt, and took cruises. He was a member of Fitness First Health Club in Agawam. He is survived by: daughter Deborah R. (Edward) Pero of Somers, CT, son David D. (Judith) Robinson of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren, Stephanie (Paul) Quirini of Guilderland, NY, Glenn R. Pero of Suffield, CT, Joshua (Claire) Robinson and Benjamin (Jody) Robinson of Atlanta, great-grandsons John and Tyler Robinson and cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Suffield. Funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday June 10 th at 10am followed by burial in Agawam Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday June 9 th 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 155, Suffield, CT 06078.
