George F. Seymour Sr.

1919 – 2017

FEEDING HILLS – George F. Seymour Sr., 98, of Memorial Drive died Friday in the Soldier's Home, surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Springfield the son of the late Amie and Sylvia (Quintal) Seymour. He grew up in Springfield's Hungry Hill Section before moving to Agawam in 1955. He worked as a Purchasing Manager for Gilbarco and Crompton Knowles before retiring from Digital Technologies. A World War II veteran, he served proudly with the 301 st Bombardment Group. He flew in B-17's for the United States Army Air Corps as both a waist gunner and photographer and completed several missions. His plane was shot down over Tunisia but he and the crew escaped by parachute. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Unit Badge for Valor. George always had a war story to tell.  A communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion and active with the West Springfield Fish & Game Club. He leaves his wife of 72 years Freda (Westcott) Seymour; three sons Paul and his wife Sandy, Glenn and George F. Seymour Jr. and his wife Betty.; a daughter Michele Jarvis and her husband David; sister Marion Stebbins; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond Seymour. The family would like to thank the staff at the Holyoke Soldier's Home for the loving and dignified care they gave to George. Visiting Hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday morning from 10:30am – 12:00noon followed by Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church at 12:30pm. The burial will be in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
