Gerónimo F. Arroyo, 74, of Springfield died Monday at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Gerónimo or "Jerry", worked in NY and CT tobacco fields before he settled down in Springfield in the late '60s, where he worked at Trident Alloys, Burger's Package Store, and, for many years until his retirement as a Valley Opportunity Council driver. Since the 1960s, his reputation also grew as a bass and cuatro player, who took great pride in his Puerto Rican heritage, culture, and traditional music. In addition to the numerous loving relatives and lifelong friends too many to list here, Jerry leaves his wife Elizabeth (Cruzado) Arroyo of 49 years; four sons, Luis, Melvin, Michael and Osvaldo; a daughter Maria Luisa, and six grandchildren. His son, Geronimo Arroyo Jr., died in 1993. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 4 pm – 7 pm at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home. On Saturday, March 12 at 9 am, the funeral will also be held there. At 10 am, the Liturgy will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church followed by his burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
