Obituary

Gino Angelo Mirolli, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning. He was born on January 24,1935, the son of Diodato and Filomena (Urbano) Mirolli. He was a lifelong resident of West Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War and later worked in the field of transportation as a trucking manager. Towards the end of his career he started his own business, G & G trucking until his retirement.  "Gus" was an energetic, kind soul who was everyone's friend. Throughout his life he stayed busy playing and coaching sports, volunteering, taking walks, and spending time with family and friends. He played softball for the Western Mass. Relics, competed in the Senior Games, and hung up his hockey skates at the age of 78. Gino was an original Rink Rat and was honored at the MassMutual Center during a Springfield Falcon's game. He was also a member of the Unico Club and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandson. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and award ceremonies. He never missed an opportunity to see his grandchildren shine. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the rink to skate, watch a game or a training session. Gino was predeceased by the love of his life, Janet Garrity Mirolli in 1985, his son, Mark, in 2021, and his wife, Christina (Szalicki) Mirolli in 2018, his brothers Charlie (2016) and Henry (2024).  He is survived by his children Thomas and his wife Susan, his daughter Gina (Robbins) and her husband Norman, his son Michael and partner Maureen, and his grandchildren Sarah Mirolli and her partner Dom, Gabie Mirolli and her partner Matt, Rob Mirolli, Gino Robbins, Angelo Robbins, JanaRose Robbins and his great grandson Nico Nicora. He also leaves his brother Londo. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Noon followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 1, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration, East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, and Beacon Hospital for their compassionate care of our father.
