Giovanni P. Veneroni

1913-2017

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Giovanni P. Veneroni, son of Carlo and Angela (Marli) Veneroni of Dorno, Italy, sadly passed away at the age of 103. John immigrated to America in 1929, living in New York City before marrying Theresa Gianetti in 1941, settling in West Springfield. He was a thirty-year employee of Gilbarco & Co, later retiring from TIG Welding and ending his working career at Mario's Shoe Repair. As a lifetime member of the DAV, John was a proud Army veteran of World War II, taking part in the Normandy invasion. He told wonderful stories his family will treasure, of his youth in the "old country", life in New York City and World War II. John was a fun-loving person who in his own words had a "long, good life". His wife of 72 years, Theresa (Gianetti) Veneroni, died in 2012. He leaves two daughters, Anita Bourcier; her husband Donald, and Terry Vosburgh; her husband Anthony all West Springfield and a son John Veneroni of California. He also leaves five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; his two sisters Ines Villani and Lina Lampugnani of Dorno, Italy. Besides his wife, Giovanni was predeceased by a sister Elvira and brother Sandro. Our sincere thanks to his care takers, Nateisha and Nate, and Mercy Hospice. Special thanks to Dr. Levy and his staff at the VA Healthcare Center in Springfield. They took excellent care of him, enabling him to live at home. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 11:30am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
