Obituary

Gladys V. (Hohengasser) Rossmeisl, 102, died Monday in Mount St. Vincent Nursing Home. Born in Northampton on March 1, 1914, she was the daughter of Emil and Mary (Willard) Hohengasser. Gladys was raised in Greenfield and attended local schools. Gladys was a longtime resident of West Springfield. Gladys was a health department secretary for the Town of West Springfield for 19 years, retiring in 1978. Gladys was a member of the West Springfield Town Hall Retirees, a former town meeting member, a member of the Eastern Star Golden Chapter #5 of Westfield and the Forget Me Not Club of Springfield. Gladys was a 54 year member of the First Congregational Church of West Springfield. She was a church deaconess and member of its Evening Guild One. Gladys is survived by 7 sons; George A. Rossmeisl Jr., of West Springfield, Edward Rossmeisl of Charlton, John Rossmeisl of West Springfield, James Rossmeisl of Holyoke, David Rossmeisl of Gaithersburg, MD, Philip Rossmeisl of St. John Chrysotome, Quebec, Canada, Paul Rossmeisl of West Springfield, 7 daughters Marie Aseltine and Virginia Dagasse both of West Springfield, Esther Line of Lady Lake, FL, Ruth Fields of Enfield, CT, Sarah Maziarz of Lady Lake, FL, Marlene Czepiel of Chicopee, Linda Drozdowski of Villages, FL; 2 half-brothers; Herbert Hohengasser of Greenfield and Ernest Hohengasser of Needham, 3 half-sisters Irmgard Petersante and Marguerite Yestramski both of Greenfield, Elaine Lundquist of San Antonio, TX; 52 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Gladys was predeceased by her husband George A. Rossmeisl Sr., who died in 1963; 2 daughters, Barbara Krupienski and Gail Gonet; a grandson Philip Rossmeisl Jr.; a granddaughter Mary Line, 2 stepdaughters, Gladys Cowan and Doris Dahowski; a brother Emil Hohengasser and a sister Bertha Bourget. The funeral will be Friday at 11 am at West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Aaron Clark Cemetery, Turners Falls. Calling hours will be Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
