Gloria A. Slusars

1931 –  2020

West Springfield – Gloria A. (Bertassi) Slusars, 89, died peacefully Wednesday evening at home surrounded by her loving family.   Gloria was born in West Springfield and has been a lifelong resident.  A graduate of West Springfield High School, she worked at Associated Transport, Holmes Transportation and Southworth Paper but more recently she served as a lunch mother, until the age of 87, at Memorial School in West Springfield.  Gloria was a longtime communicant of the former St. Ann's Church and is a member of the St. Ann's Sodality.  She was a member of the Memorial Avenue's Deadline Gang, enjoyed cooking for her family every Sunday, trips to the casinos, vacations to Hampton Beach and Misquamicut Beach, weekends at "the camp" in Holland, MA, monthly dinners with her friends at the Dante Club, and parking cars during the Big E.  She was predeceased by her husband Edward F. Slusars Sr.  She leaves her children Deborah Jimmo and her husband Sidney, Clara Slusars, Mary Slusars and Edward F. Slusars Jr. and his wife Frances; four grandchildren Stephanie Bertrand and her husband Jeffrey, Nicholas Jimmo, Corey & Bradley Slusars and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  Besides her husband, Gloria was predeceased by her siblings Felix, Elise, and Clara Bertassi.  The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Baystate Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday from 9:30 – 10:30am followed by Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield at 11:00am with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
