Grace C. Kinney
1924 – 2013

AGAWAM – Grace Caroline (Johnson) Kinney, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the age of 89 at Country Estates in Agawam. She was born of Swedish immigrants Carl and Gerda Johnson in Brooklyn, NY, where she grew up, graduated from Elmont High School and married her husband, William D. Kinney in 1947. They moved to Springfield's Sixteen Acres in 1951, and raised seven children, returning to work at MassMutual and then as a school secretary for the city of Springfield for 11 years. She moved to Feeding Hills in 1978 and lived here the rest of her life. She was a member of Vasa Swedish Society. An accomplished singer, She loved to sing and had sung at Carnegie Hall as a young girl, played the organ, and was always ready to go shopping, her favorite pastime. Above all, her family meant the most to her and her motherly advise and love will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her dear husband William, and three children; Janet, Gary and Joanne. She leaves family who will dearly miss her; three daughters Carol C. DeBonis and her fiancé Jay Rawlins of Ft. Myers, FL, Carla G. Dempsey and her husband John of Feeding Hills, Grace C. McCarthy and her husband Michael of East Longmeadow and a son William D. Kinney of Dallas, TX. She also leaves ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Special thanks to her caregivers; Dolores, Sara, JoAnn, Eva, Heather, Jasmine, Hilda and the many others who helped to take care of her. Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00pm. A private graveside service will be held in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
