Hazel M. Pomeroy Bedrossian
1916-2016
WEST SPRINGFIELD-Hazel M. (McKay) Pomeroy Bedrossian, 99, died Monday at Mount St. Vincent Care Center. She was born in Holyoke, October 18, 1916, daughter of John McKay and Clara (Kjoller) McKay, and had lived in South Hadley, Springfield and Longmeadow before becoming a resident of West Springfield in 1944. She was schooled in South Hadley, graduating from South Hadley High School in 1934 where she composed the South Hadley High School March. Hazel was employed at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, was Chief Clerk of Draft Board #140 during WWII, worked as a secretary at First Congregational Church in West Springfield, John S. Lane Co. in Westfield, and several years at Byron's Funeral Home. More recently, she was employed as Finance Clerk at United Cooperative Bank, retiring at the age of 90. Hazel was a soprano soloist and choir director in many local churches and a member of the Springfield Symphony Chorus and the A Capella Choir. Later in life, she put her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and is now in the presence of her Lord. She had been a member of the evangelical Covenant Church, Springfield. She was a longtime Red Sox and Gilbert & Sullivan fan. She leaves three sons, John D. Pomeroy and his wife Beryl of Honolulu, Hawaii, Robert L. Pomeroy of West Springfield and Donald L. Pomeroy and his wife Karen of West Springfield, a daughter Janet E. Beach and her husband Kent of Hampden, grandchildren Rob, Kim, Brian, Eric, Robin, Krista, Jeffrey, Kenneth, step grandchildren Korey and Meghan, thirteen great grandchildren and four great step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Merton D. Pomeroy in 1958, her second husband Aram J. Bedrossian in 1995, daughter-in-law Yvonne in 2013 and sister Ruth Lloyd in 1986. The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. St. Vincent for their extraordinary and compassionate care given to our mother. The funeral service will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Wednesday June 22th at 11 am with burial in Riverside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
