South Hadley – Helen M. (Skowronek) Ironside of South Hadley died Wednesday at home. Helen was born in Holyoke, lived in Holyoke most of her life before moving to South Hadley 33 years ago. She worked as a Sewing Machine Operator for the former Winfield Hat Company and retired from Elco Dress Company. Helen was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Church. Her husband Ralph R. Ironside died in 1984. She leaves two children William Ironside and his wife Janice of Glastonbury, CT and Judith Szafir and her husband Walter of Suffield, CT; a sister Sophia Desmarais; three grandchildren and their spouses Mark and Tiffany Ironside, Kristen and Matt Daly and Kimberly and Kevin Verrier. She also leaves eight great grandchildren Will, Zach, Luke, Caleb, Nathaniel, Maren, Wesley and Elijah and several nieces and nephews. Helen lived a full and faithful life, trusting God and loving her family. She was truly a blessing. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cross Church on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:00am followed by burial in Forestdale Cemetery. The Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mater Dolorosa School or the South Hadley Council on Aging.
