Helen Jurkowski

1933 – 2020

Holyoke-Helen Jurkowski, 87, passed away peacefully and quietly on November 12 th at Mont Marie, Holyoke.  She was born in Springfield on May 13, 1933, ninth child of Marya (Czop) and Jan Jurkowski.  She graduated from Commerce High School and her first job was at the original Girls Club on Chestnut Street in Springfield.  Helen worked there for many years and was fondly known to many young girls as "Miss Helen".  Helen was also employed at Jahn Foundry and at Merriam-Webster until she retired in 1998.  Helen was a communicant of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield, where she was active with Catholic Charities, as well as the Parish Council.  Helen was predeceased by her brothers Benedict, Fabian, Chester and Joseph, her sisters Katherine Lapa, Stephanie Bagge, Jane Kuczma and Dorothy Rexford.  She leaves behind her brother Francis of Springfield and her sister Dolores (Sister Dorothea of the "Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth" in Monroe, CT.), numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.  The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Mont Marie for their loving and patient care of Helen these past six years, especially Denise, Didi and Neslie.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 20 th from 9:30 – 10:30am with Liturgy of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev.
