Howard E. Daniels
1924 – 2014

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Howard Earl Daniels, born Oct. 10, 1924 in Springfield to Montefiore and Edith L. (Cunningham) Daniels died January 3, 2014 at the Soldier's Home in Holyoke. A graduate of West Springfield High School, he served in World War II in the South Pacific theatre as a member of the 678th Bombardment Squadron of the Army Air Force. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Massachusetts and worked many years as a fireman for the B&M Railroad. He remained home in West Springfield as his parents chauffeur and caretaker and had a special love for the family cottage at Lake Norwich, his dog "Puppy Dog", playing cards, hunting, fishing and golfing with family and friends. Howard spent the last 7 years of his life at the Soldier's Home. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff of North 1 for the wonderful care, consideration and love showed upon Howard. Predeceasing Howard were his parents; brothers: Maurice, Stanley, Monte and Leonard; his sister Jean and his best buddy, Bud Bartlett. As the uncle of 8 he leaves behind Brian, Mark, Neal and Russell Daniels, Carolyn Lawry, Christine Devlin, Deborah Daniels-Belyendaal and Heather Daniels. He was a grand uncle to 22 and great great uncle to 27. He also leaves his beloved cousins including Bette Oakes, Winn and Claire Taplin. A private service will be held with committal in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. There are no calling hours and the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
