Irene A. Drewniak, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 18, 2017. Born in Springfield to Peter and Annie Smith, she lived in the Springfield area and Scotland prior to and during WW II. She returned to Springfield after the war, where she met and married her husband of 52 years, Thaddeus J. Drewniak. She cherished her time working at her church and in the West Springfield elementary schools as a teacher aide. She was the devoted mother of Stephen J. (Elizabeth), David F. (Patricia), and Helen Johnson (Donald), "Gie" to John, Liz, Pete, Jo, Mike, Dan and Trev, and "Great Gie" to Ella, Libby and Stevie. She is survived by a sister, Patricia Cotton of NH, a dear nephew Brian Portez of Columbus Ohio, and many other cherished nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Ted, and siblings Doris Portez and David Smith. Relatives and friends are invited for visiting hours 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 21 st at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield, MA. A celebration of her life will be held at 9:30, Friday, September 22 nd at First Congregational Church, 20 Lathrop Street, West Springfield, MA. Burial to follow at the Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 20 Lathrop Street, West Springfield, MA.
