Obituary

Irene M. Harrington, 89 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24th, 2019. Born in Springfield, Ma. she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Antoinette (Riou) Dionne. Irene graduated from Cathedral High School and was employed by the former Diamond Match Company before settling down to raise her family. She was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield. Irene was predeceased by her husband James E. Harrington, sister M. Therese Dionne, and brothers, Roger and Robert Dionne. Irene was also predeceased by sons Michael and Daniel Harrington. Irene is survived by her daughter Mary Amato and husband Patrick, of Longmeadow, her son James and his wife Luisa of South Hadley, her brother Richard and his wife Patricia of Springfield, and sister-in-law Theresa Dionne, of Springfield. She leaves eight grandchildren: Erin, Austin, and Meg Amato, Rachel, Morgan, Grace, Jaryn, and Andrew Harrington. Irene will be greatly missed for being a thoughtful mom and grandma who deeply cared for her family, and most enjoyed just being in the company of her loved ones. She will be remembered for all the wonderful handmade items she lovingly made for her family thru the years, which were done with impeccable workmanship. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, arts and crafts, music, soap operas, baking, and short drives to enjoy the fall foliage, summer flowers, and holiday lights. A special thank you to all the members of the Spectrum Hospice team who carefully and thoughtfully coordinated Irene's care in the last two weeks of her life as well as to all the CNA's, PT/OT staff, nurses, medical staff, and "life enrichment" team of the Jewish Nursing Home, who attended to Irene's physical and nutritional needs over the years. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday January 2nd, 2019 at 11:00 am at St Mary's Parish, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, Ma. Burial will take place at 3:00 pm at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Nursing Home of Western Mass, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, Ma.
