Irene (Bouzakis) Papadakis

AGAWAM – Irene (Bouzakis) Papadakis passed away peacefully on Tuesday June, 1, 2011 at the Atrium Assisted Living in Agawam. She was born in Brooklyn the daughter of Emanuel and Mary (Diamantakis) Bouzakis. She attended schools in Brooklyn, graduating from Girls Commercial High School. She came to Springfield in 1946. She was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she taught Sunday school, worked set-ups at both Thursday and Friday Bingo, volunteered in the church office and helped out during GLENDI. Irene worked in the Alteration Department at J.C. Penney's, as a sewing machine operator for Rainbow Girls Coats in Springfield and also at Buxton's Leather in Agawam. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Philopotottes Society. She leaves her beloved husband Theodore "Ted" Papadakis; a son Paul and his wife Kathleen (Baxter) Papadakis of Feeding Hills; a daughter MaryAnn Fields and her husband Robert of Monument, CO; four grandchildren Matthew Papadakis and his girlfriend Diana Frogameni,, Karlene Papadakis, Jason Fields and his wife Jenny (Birthisel) and Brandon Fields; and three great grandchildren Joey Papadakis and Alex and Ava Fields. She also leaves her brother-in-law Manuel Papadakis and his wife Mary (Foley); Nieces and Nephews, Georgia Bouzakis and her family, Irene Tragares and family, Richard Bouzakis and family, Manny and Tracy Papadakis, Diane Papadakis, Robert and Jeannette Papadakis and family. She was predeceased by her brothers Nicholas, Anthony and Michael Bouzakis. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday at 8:30 with Liturgy in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 9:30 followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
