James W. Amabile
1928-2019
FEEDING HILLS- James W. Amabile, Jr. passed away on December 5th, peacefully at his home at the age of 91. James was born in Springfield MA to Gennaro and Emma Amabile. He proudly served in the US Navy as a Gunners Mate, during WW2 aboard the USS Gearing (DD-710), going to Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and France. Upon leaving the service, he married Anna (Graziano) and moved to Feeding Hills. He was a Safety Inspector at several different companies throughout his career, including Springfield Electrotype; the American Bosch and was a safety consultant with the Hughes Aircraft Corporation. James enjoyed playing bocce and playing cards at the Dante Club and Agawam Senior Center. He loved golfing, fishing and watching the Red Sox; but most of all he enjoyed working on his lawn and in his garden. His greatest pride and joy came from spending time with his grandsons and they were "Pop's pals" as he would say. He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Susan Amabile of Feeding Hills; Lisa Markland and her husband, Rob of Agawam; his grandsons Jacob W. Garfield and his wife Brittany, and James's great-granddaughter McKenna of Biloxi MS; Jeffrey D. Garfield and Sandra Vrankovic of West Springfield; and his dog, Daisy. James's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Baystate Medical for all their assistance and care. Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 - 7 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church in Feeding Hills on Thursday at 9:30; followed by burial in the Mass Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
