Obituary

James W. Anderson
1930 – 2013

AGAWAM – James W. "Jimmy" Anderson, 82, died Sunday in Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born in Pembrook, Ontario and lived in West Springfield before moving to Agawam 20 years ago. A local Hockey Legend with the Springfield Indians, Jim's plaque is proudly displayed at the Mass. Mutual Ice Arena. This talented Winger scored more goals than any other Springfield player. Jim went on to coach the Washington Capitals and spent 20 years scouting for the Los Angeles Kings. James Anderson was loved and admired by so many. He was still doing what he loved most…teaching young children how to skate at Amelia Park in Westfield. He leaves his wife JoAnn (Balakier) Anderson; two sons James D. Anderson and his wife Angela of Jacksonville, Florida; William R. Anderson and his wife Lenora of Southwick, a daughter Kim A. Anderson of Huntington; a sister Barbara Bennett of Kingston, Ontario; and his beloved grandchildren whom he was so proud of, Nicole, Tyler, Andrew, Coty and a predeceased grandson Lucas. He also leaves three stepchildren Kim and Frank Riordan, and Kathleen Sullivan. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church Thursday at 11:30am. A private burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Agawam Senior Center or to Amelia Park in Westfield. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
