James W. Bergland

BLANDFORD – James W. Bergland, 83 of Blandford, Manhattan and Cascavel, Brazil, died October 6, 2011 at home. A resident of Blandford since 1963 he was passionate about his home and land. He was born in 1928 in Minnesota and raised in Montana. He held degrees from York College, Nebraska; United Theological Seminary, Ohio and a Doctor of Theology from Union Theological Seminary NY, NY. He was a pastor at churches in Ohio and New Jersey. At Union Theological Seminary he was an Assistant and an Associate professor and the Director of Field Education. He was the Director of the South Forty Corporation, NYC. He was the founder and executive director of Patmos Associates, a nonprofit organization providing services to strengthen and maintain the connections between prison inmates and their families. He is survived by his wife Judy, son Kim and Kurt, daughter-in-law Tricia, grandsons Christian and Carson, brother John, sister Kay Wise and his cherished friends Ron and Joyce Collins. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Robert. A private memorial service will be held at a later time in NYC.
