Feeding Hills – James V. "Butchie" Falleti Jr., 82 died peacefully Monday morning surrounded by his loving family. James was born and raised in West Springfield the son of the late Vincenzo and Irene (Aversa) Falleti and moved to Feeding Hills in 1983. He was a 1959 graduate of West Springfield High School. After graduation he served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon his discharge from the Army, he went to work for the Clark Paint Factory in West Springfield. He retired in 2005 after 20 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was an outstanding athlete for West Side High, he won two Western Mass Hockey titles, set the hurdles record and won the Valley League in Track and won a championship for the football team. He was elected "Class Athlete" in his senior year and was offered a scholarship to Michigan State University. His nickname was "Fleet Foot Falleti" and he played semi-pro Hockey for the Jolly Jesters and ABC Oilers in the AHL. A member of the Verdi Club and Deadline Gang, James was inducted as a "Rink Rat" in the Springfield Hockey Hall of Fame. James was an avid Boston Sports fan and more than anything loved spending time with his family. His wife Shirley (Wood) Falleti died in 2018. He leaves five children Gina Feyre and her husband James, James Falleti, Barbara Glidden, and her husband Michael: Russell Sprague and Victor Sprague. He also leaves a sister Sally Durocher and her family, Kevin, Lisa, Doreen, and Michael; eight grandchildren Ryan, and Connor Feyre, Christopher, Daniel, Michelle, Joshua, Adam Sprague, Jonathan Chapdelaine; ten great grandchildren, many cousins, and dear friends. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 10:30am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church at 11:30am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
