Obituary

James C. Marmo, 79 of Agawam, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of January 1, 2016. He was born in Amsterdam NY, son of the late Salvatore and Angelina Marmo and lived in Schenectady NY, Windsor CT, before moving to Agawam in 1968. Jim was a tireless advocate for the Teamsters Union and was a proud member for 30 years. He was a successful entrepreneur in the areas of catering, dining establishments, sports bars, and apparel. In his leisure time, he was an avid golfer and member of a local golf course. A volunteer fixture in local athletic associations, Jim's enthusiasm for sports continued through to his grandchildren. Most recently Jim was an appointed member of the Agawam Board of Appeals. He was also a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Jim is survived by children James M. Marmo and his wife Andrea of Ashland MA, Thomas Marmo and his wife Toni of Agawam MA, Deborah Piorek and her husband Thomas of Enfield CT, Michael Marmo and his wife Michelle of West Suffield CT, Ann Marie Bonito of Tucson AZ, brother Joseph Marmo of Schenectady NY, as well as 10 grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and his caring and devoted friend of many years, Tina Weir of Agawam MA. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9am from the Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 745 Cooper Street, Agawam MA. Followed by Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am at the St. John the Evangelist Church, 833 Main St, Agawam, MA. Burial will follow in the Agawam Center Cemetery.
