WEST SPRINGFIELD – James M. McCormick, 78 of Fenor Street died Tuesday, surrounded by his family, in Baystate Medical Center. Jim was born and raised in Holyoke, son of the late Stephen and Agnes (Martin) McCormick and has lived in West Springfield over 50 years. James was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke, where he was a three sport athlete and a member of the Holyoke Catholic High School Hall of Fame. He was the first winner of the Frank Garrity MVP award. James attended St. Michael's College in Vermont and graduated from Western New England University. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany for two years. James retired from the Massachusetts Police in 1980, following his retirement he was employed by the Western Mass Electric Company for 12 years. James is a member of the Mass State Police Association, American Association of State Troopers, and the Retired Troopers Association. He is also a member of the Unity Annual of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. For many years Jim has been an avid supporter of his grandchildren's sports activities, often supplying the team with fruit and snacks for the bus ride home after the games. He was the loving, caring and devoted husband of Winifred (Rosenbeck) McCormick and father of Mary Butler and her husband Paul of West Hartford, Michael and his wife Barbara of Westfield and John and his wife Susan of South Riding, VA. He was grandfather of Katherine, Brian and Christopher Butler, Christopher and Zachary McCormick and Finn McCarty. He also leaves his sister Sheila Stanlonis, and sisters-in-law Irma and Marion McCormick as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers Stephen and Andrew McCormick. Family and friends are asked to meet at Sacred Heart Church, Springfield Friday at 12:30pm for the Liturgy of Christian Burial followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
