Obituary

Jim Safarik, 82, of Feeding Hills passed away at Baystate Medical Center on Sunday, June 8, 2025 with his devoted wife, Barbara by his side. Jim was born to Rudolph and Ann Safarik on December 17, 1942 and brought up in Holyoke. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School. After graduation he enlisted into the Navy and was very proud to have been a member of the elite Hurricane Hunters flying into and charting hurricanes. Upon completion his military service Jim continued his education at the RCA School of Electronics in New York. He returned to Holyoke and was employed by New England Telephone for over 35 years. Retirement found Jim and Barbara wintering in Venice, Florida where Jim enjoyed golfing, riding his bike, and meeting with friends to share a glass of cold red wine. In later years he and Barbara traveled to many European countries on riverboat cruises. Jim will always be remembered as the go to person in the neighborhood to lend a helping hand or give sage advice. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Barbara A. (Bourbeau) Safarik of 52 years, his son Christopher and wife Ji Hye, and the light of his life, his 14-month-old grandson Calvin. He also leaves sisters-in-law, Marie and Susan (Frank), nephews, Ryan and Todd, dear cousin Paula, and his brother John, dear friends Frank and Kay Cavallo whose company Jim enjoyed on many occasions. Jim was predeceased by his sister Linda on April 11 of this year. The family extends thanks to the cardiac critical care team who treated Jim with such care, compassion and dignity. Services for Jim will be held Friday, June 20 at 9:00am at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Jude, P.O.
