AGAWAM – Demetrios James Vavolakis, 63 of Brookfield Lane died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Mercy Hospital. James was born in Southbridge on October 5, 1948 and had lived in Springfield before moving to Agawam 40 years ago. He attended Agawam Schools and graduated for L.I.U. in New York. He was the District Manager for various companies in the food industry. A communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral he also served in the United States Army. James was predeceased by parents Anthony and Sarah Vavolakis. He leaves an uncle William Proakis of Agawam; an aunt Anna Agathangelakis of Southbridge; his godchild Kyra Benard of Agawam and several first cousins Rebecca Mitchell of Somers, Adria Benard, Angela Forward, Christina Blake, and Dean Proakis all of Agawam, and Elaine Digregorio of Charlton. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:00am with Liturgy in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10:00am followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
