Janet A. McCarthy

1937 – 2025

West Springfield – Janet A. (Perron) McCarthy, 88, died peacefully Saturday morning surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born in Berlin, NH, the daughter of the late Hubert and Annie (Tatangelo) Perron.  She came to the Springfield area as a young child, only able to speak French and Italian, and managed to learn English quickly to attend school.  She has lived in West Springfield most of her life.  Janet was a retired Vice President for the former BayBank.  After retirement she worked part time at the Christmas Tree Shops and loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, member of the West Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Ramapogue Women's Club, and was a longtime poll worker on election days in West Springfield.  Janet was predeceased by her husband Derry McCarthy who died in 1993; a son Patrick McCarthy in 1998 and a grandson T.J. Lane in1989. She leaves two daughters Lynn McCarthy and Karen Demers and her husband Eric; three granddaughters Sarah Lane, Jill Abbott and her husband Nick, and Erin Demers and her partner Chris DeJohn; and a great grandson Bennett Abbott.  She also leaves her siblings Lillian Bears, Joyce Viecelli, Pauline Massey, Bob and Larry LeClerc also her brothers and sisters in law Paul and Jackie McCarthy and Bill and Elaine McCarthy and many nieces and nephews.  The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral home service on Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:00am.  For more information and online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Massachusetts, 512 Forest St., Marlborough MA 01752 in honor of West Springfield Special Olympics
