Janina "Jane" W. (Borowski) Zakrzewski, 96, died peacefully Monday February 19, 2018 at Wingate South Hadley surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Jane was born and raised in Poland, the daughter of the late Jan and Maria Borowski. She came to the United States in 1949 to escape the Nazi occupation in Europe. She lived in Holyoke for 17 years, and then settled in South Hadley in 1967. She worked at the former Spaulding Factory in Chicopee for many years. She was affectionately known as "Babu" and was a longtime communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke. Babu loved to garden and take care of her family. Many Sundays were spent at Babu's house having Sunday dinner with family and friends, with all of her grandchildren playing in the backyard. She also loved to cook and could make the best perogies and golumpkis around. Her husband Józef W. Zakrzewski died in 1996, a son Joseph W. Zakrzewski died in 2012, and a daughter Myra Czarniecki died in 2017. She was also pre-deceased by her 3 sisters in Poland. She leaves two daughters Theresa Zakrzewski and Christine Holman; nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregivers on East 2 Unit at Wingate of South Hadley, especially Jean and Robin, for the compassionate care provided to Jane and the family over the past few years. The funeral will be held Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley with Liturgy in Our Lady of the Cross Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
