WEST SPRINGFIELD – Jean E. (Dorrington) Moore Teodore, 84, of Park Avenue died Saturday morning at home surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Westfield, the daughter of Evelyn and Sidney Dorrington and has lived in West Springfield most of her life. As a teenager, she volunteered as a Candy Striper at Noble Hospital, was active in her church and danced and sang in local productions. In 1951 Jean graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing, where she was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. She was a private duty, nursery and general floor duty nurse at Noble Hospital and also worked as a one-person office nurse for Dr. William Hamblin. She was certified to tutor English and did so while covering as a camp nurse for the Pop Welch Boy's Camp in East Otis. Probably best remembered as teaching ceramics, oil painting and cake decorating, many of Jean's cakes graced the tables of friends' and neighbors' weddings, birthdays and special occasions. Some of her paintings earned prize ribbons at area shows. She studied under several local artist of note. She also was involved in crafts. She used to say "Jack of all trades, Master of none" but enjoyed them all. She spent her married life in West Springfield and was a 50-year-plus member of the Mittineague Congregational Church and belonged to the Ramapogue Women's Club. She was instrumental in establishing the Parent's group at the Work Opportunity Center as non-profit and with her husband helped to form and were co-presidents in the new Fausey School PTA. She taught first aid to the girl scouts, had a Cub Scout troop and volunteered at the West Springfield Senior Center. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed being a homemaker. Her first husband, David R. Moore Sr. died in 1980. They were avid square dancers and campers and enjoyed traveling. Her second husband, Albert E. Teodore died in 1989. They enjoyed winters at their mobile home in Sarasota, FL. She was also predeceased by her loving grandson Daniel R. Normand and a sister Carol Armitage. She leaves a son David Moore Jr., her daughter Martha Moore Normand, whom were very dear to her as well as her brother Donald Dorrington and his wife Anne and her constant companion Tina. She also leaves her granddaughter-in-law Cathleen Rios-Normand; a granddaughter Melissa Normand-Brouillette and five great grandchildren Elisabeth and Shawn Thebodo, Mia Brouillette and Kyera and David Rivera and many special nephews and nieces. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday, April 10, 2015 at 7:00pm. Visiting hours will be prior to the service Friday from 5:00 – 7:00pm. The burial will take place in Paucatuck Cemetery later this spring. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
