Obituary

Jean C. (Bleau) Sbalbi, 85, entered into eternal rest at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 7, 2025. Born on November 12, 1939, and raised in the Brightwood section of Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Gladys (Coté) Bleau. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1957 and worked for many years for the Insurance Company of North America.

Jean married the love of her life, Raymond Sbalbi, on June 11, 1960. They began their life together in Springfield, Massachusetts, before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1966. In 1974, they returned home to Massachusetts to be closer to family, settling in West Springfield, where they raised their five children over the next 25 years.

A strong-willed, fun-loving woman, Jean embraced every day with humor and heart. She especially loved summer vacations at Misquamicut Beach, floating in the ocean for hours, and her magical Disney vacations shared with family. She enjoyed reading a good book, playing cards, the excitement of a casino visit, and the thrill of her scratch tickets.

Above all else, her family was her greatest joy. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she adored every moment spent with them. Her loving and familiar words — "I love you more" — will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved sister, Shirley Farias, whom she loved beyond measure.  She leaves her devoted husband of 65 years, Raymond Sbalbi, and her children: Christine and her husband Gary Visconti, and their children Anthony, Michael, and Julia; Donna and her husband Paul Ruddy, and their sons Bryan and Sean; Anthony Sbalbi and his wife Sherri, and their sons Nicholas and Christopher; Joanne and her husband Scott Prentiss, and their children Haley Jean Lohnes and Logan Prentiss; John Sbalbi, and his children Mia, Alexander, and Joseph.

She was also a beloved sister-in-law to Dino and Ellen Sbalbi. Jean is also mourned by her nieces — Lisa Mazerall, Tina Langone, and Dina Prairie — to whom she was a cherished and beloved aunt.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Baystate Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and guidance during the last few months of Jean's life.
