Joanne K. Smith

West Springfield – Joanne "Jody" (Knight) Smith passed away on Friday, December 11th, after a long illness. Jody was born on August 7, 1931 to the late Frank Rollin Knight and Ruth (Cook) Knight. She was a long-time resident of West Springfield and a graduate of West Springfield High School Class of 1949, where she was a cheerleader. She attended Boston University and then returned to West Springfield and went to work for the Charles Sheldon Advertising where she became a model for Breck Shampoo. Her pictures were in Ladies' Home Journal, Glamour, Vogue, and Saturday Evening Post. Jody was a member of the Mittineague Congregational Church. She did volunteer work at Baystate Medical Center and was a member of the Ramapogue Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to a bridge club for many years and the girls remained good friends throughout the years. Jody loved Cape Cod and spent many summers there with family and friends at their summer home in West Dennis. Her most treasured gifts in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has left her family with many happy memoires of all their times spent together. Jody was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years Philip "Phip" C. Smith and also her brother Robert of Indianapolis, Indiana. Joanne leaves her sister-in-law Bea Smith of West Springfield. She also leaves her children, daughter Linda Williams and husband Bob of Westfield, son Atty. Philip "Chip" Smith and wife Lynne of Westfield, son Jeffrey and partner Kathy Maloney of West Springfield, and daughter Karen Vye and husband Mark of Agawam, her grandchildren Jennifer Stauffer and husband David of Easthampton, Bobby Williams and wife Lauren of Belmont, Jacqueline Smith of Allston, Jessica Smith of New York City, Doug and Mitchell Vye of Agawam, Saige, Shaen and Emery Smith of Westfield, and two great grandchildren Fern and Althea Stauffer of Easthampton. Three of her granddaughters were named after her. We all loved Mimi. The family would like to thank the staff at Visiting Angels and Christiana, the staff at Heritage North and Baystate Hospice for all their care and love. A private funeral will be held for the immediate family at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home and burial will be in Paucatuck Cemetery alongside her husband, parents, and in-laws.
