John P. Bitgood, 38, died Wednesday in Baystate Medical Center. John was born in Hartford, the son of Michael and Joan (Kress) Bitgood. He was a graduate of Agawam High School and earned his Eagle Scout. He joined the United States Army National Guard and served during the Desert Storm Conflict. He worked for 11 years as a mechanic with the National Guard and after discharge worked with AutoZone. He leaves his son Michael F. Bitgood; parents Michael and Joan (Kress) Bitgood; a girlfriend Shellie Szafranski; two sisters Michelle Hatfield and Barbara Sumner. A military service at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery will be planned in the future. The Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
