Obituary

John A. Carney, 72, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 28th, 2026 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Holyoke, son of late Joseph and Doris (Fontaine) Carney, He grew up in the Aldenville section of Chicopee and attended St. Joan of Arc Grammar School. He was a 1972 graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School and a 1976 graduate of Assumption College in Worcester with a Bachelor's Degree in History. He also attended Western New England University in a Master's program. John worked 50 years in the insurance industry in various positions such as underwriting, marketing and agent roles. He was also a member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors and a Licensed Agent.

John was an athlete who enjoyed golf, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, cross-country running and was a co-captain of his soccer team at Assumption College being named MVP in 1973. He also coached his children's sports teams such as girls soccer, boys basketball and baseball. He enjoyed reading, daily crossword puzzles, photography and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and playing games with his grandchildren. He frequently made it known how proud he was of his children and grandchildren for all their accomplishments.

John will be remembered for his striking blue eyes and truly kind spirit. He had a gift for lighting up any room, sharing stories, endless Dad jokes, offering heartfelt compliments and showing genuine kindness to everyone he met.

John was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Doris (Fontaine) Carney and older brother Gerald Carney. He leaves his wife of 46 years, Nancy J .(Boudreau) Carney, two sons, Michael J. Carney and his wife Erin (Haley) Carney of East Longmeadow, Bryan J. Carney of Springfield, his daughter, Lisa M. (Carney) McPartlin and her husband Michael McPartlin of Bellingham, MA, four grandchildren, Trenton and Valerie Carney, Miles and Josie McPartlin, his In-Laws, Janice Boudreau, Rick Dombek and Claire Carney, his 2 dogs, Dusty and Scout, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9am from the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street, with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10. The burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm.
