John F. Costello 1931-2020

John F. Costello passed away July 19, 2020 in Holyoke, MA.  John was born February 22, 1931 to Mortimer and Elizabeth (Murphy) Costello.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace, and their two children, Patricia and her husband Mark White and John M. and his wife Virginia Costello.  John also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, and 1 pre-deceased granddaughter, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.   He graduated high school from St. Jerome's and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He worked for many years at Rexam and retired in 1996.  He was a gold card member of the Knights of Columbus 4044 in Chicopee, the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield, and had previously served as the Chaplin at the American Legion Post 266 in Granby.  John loved Irish music and sports, especially the New York Giants and the New York Yankees.  He enjoyed playing softball and basketball in his younger years.   He will be dearly missed.  The family would also like to send a special thanks for the excellent care at the Holyoke Medical Center.  The funeral will be Friday July 31 ^st starting with calling hours at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home from 10am to 11am followed by Mass in St. Patrick's Church at 11:30am. Burial to follow in West St. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Friends of Granby Veterans P.O.
