Obituary

John D. "Jack" McMahon, 87, passed away on March 27, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness. Jack was born in New York City in 1935, the son of the late David McMahon and Mary Estelle (Sheehan) McMahon. Jack was raised in the Bronx, was a graduate of William Howard Taft High School and served in the armed forces in Whittier Alaska from 1954-1956. Jack graduated from the University of Connecticut, in 1960. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity while at UConn. Jack was a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, which he retired from in 2011 at age 75. Jack worked in the brokerage industry for 45 years for many firms as a branch manager and financial advisor. Jack had many hobbies and interests. A voracious reader and lover of books, Jack could frequently be found reading and watching TV at the same time. He was a fan of UConn women's basketball, a talented painter and loved MaryPat's cooking and baking. He had a dry wit, was generous and kind. His quirkiness and uniqueness made an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be missed tremendously. Most of all Jack loved his family, his wife of 62 years MaryPat, daughter Megan of Charlotte NC, Julie Borge (Rick) of Newtown PA and son in law Steve Carrier of Scituate. He was predeceased by his son Matthew of West Springfield, and daughter MaryBeth (Steve) Carrier, formerly of Cohasset. He leaves grandchildren Benjamin (Caroline) McCormick, Jack Carrier, Abigail Carrier, Katherine Callow, Rachel (Sal) Marino, Charlotte Borge and Ellie Borge. He leaves his three great grandchildren, James, Jack and Luke McCormick. He also leaves his sister Lois of Baltimore, MD and brother David of Newton MA. He leaves many nephews and nieces, and dear friends.
