John A.
Meier, Iii
January 26, 1944 – November 7, 2023
John A. Meier, III, 79, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in the Soldier's Home in Holyoke. Born in Springfield, son of the late John A. and Anna (Lawler) Meier, he grew up in Palmer and was a 1963 graduate of Palmer High School. He also lived in West Springfield for over thirty years. John worked for United Parcel Service for thirty years and was a member of the Teamsters Local 404. He was Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War stationed at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY and a member of the West Springfield American Legion. John was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and bargain hunting. He was a teller of stories-some real and some he made up from his vivid imagination. He was honored to call the Veterans Home his home for the past year and three-quarters. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Young. He leaves a sister and her husband, Katherine and Donald Pipczynski of Amherst and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Home for the excellent care they gave to John. Special thanks to the nurses and staff on 4 East and the recreation department staff. Thanks to you his quality of life was wonderful, right up until the end. Your dedication to helping John during his stay there is deeply appreciated. All services are private and the West Springfield Curran Jones Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Recreation Department, at the Veterans Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040, or donate a book in his memory to your local library.
