Obituary

AGAWAM – John A. Moccia, Sr., 91, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Mercy Medical Center.  Born in Agawam, son of the late Carl and Pasqualena (DiDonato) Moccia, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam.  John worked as a heavy equipment operator for over thirty years for Kudlic Brothers Construction Company.  He worked until he was 88 years old.  He was also an army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a helicopter mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1953 after two years of service. John was an avid golfer who frequently vacationed in Florida. He also had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his two planes, a Piper Tri-Pacer and a Piper Cherokee 140. He leaves his four children John A. Moccia Jr. of Agawam, Carl J. Moccia and wife Denise E. Moccia of Springfield, Anthony J. Moccia Sr. and wife Kristie J. Moccia of Feeding Hills, Antoinette M. Avezzie and husband Harland C. Avezzie Sr. of Westfield, eight grandchildren Kerry Avezzie of Southwick, Harland Avezzie Jr. of Westfield, Domenic Moccia of West Springfield, Anthony Moccia Jr. and Aaron Moccia of Feeding Hills, Autumn Moccia of Westfield, and Elizabeth Moccia and Charlotte Moccia of Springfield, as well as five great-grandchildren Mia Sutherland, Logan Avezzie, Leland Moccia, Adam Dougherty and Hayden MacDonald. He was predeceased by his sister Jeanette Dore and leaves behind a host of beloved nephews and a niece.  All services are private.
