AGAWAM – John J. "Jack" Patterson, 72, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in Holyoke, grew up in East Springfield, and has lived in Agawam for the past 45 years. He was a 1964 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1968 graduate of WNEC. He retired in 2015 as the Executive Vice President of United Bank. From 1968 – 1970 he served with the United States Army, stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He was an avid golfer at Springfield Country Club and Agawam Country Club as well as the top Keno player in Western Mass. The most important part of Jack's life was spending time with his family. He loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports, family dinners, holidays and taking family vacations. He leaves his wife of 50 years Kathryn (Stevens) Patterson; three children Jack Patterson and his wife Christine, Karen Cleavall and her husband Michael and Kristen Hutchison and her husband Michael; seven grandchildren Cassidy and Jackie Patterson, Matthew and Katelyn Cleavall and Molly, Michael and Kara Hutchison. He also leaves his siblings Mary Shanahan and her husband Bill, Brian Patterson and Kathleen Patterson and her husband Michael Hatch. Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Pine Street, West Springfield Friday at 9:45 for the Liturgy of Christian Burial followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's' Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 745 Cooper Street, Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. For more details please visit curranjones.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA 01105. Jack wanted everyone to be left with his favorite saying, "Be good, and if you're not good, have FUN."
