John J. Toomey Jr., 91, died Tuesday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late John J. and Margaret (Connell) Toomey, born and raised in West Springfield and later moved to Springfield where he raised his family. John is also predeceased by his two brothers Robert and Richard Toomey. John retired from Travelers Insurance Company after 42 years of service. He also served in the Army Air Corp during WWII from 1943 to 1945 and was a member of the Caterpillar Club. He leaves his loving wife Ann (Mahoney) Toomey, six children; Joanne Spigarelli and her husband Philip of W. Springfield, Margaret Toomey of W. Springfield, Paul Toomey of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Mary Christy and her husband Scott of Jackson, MO, Brian Toomey and his wife Susan of Wilbraham, and Jeffery Toomey and his wife Jana of Exeter, NH. He also leaves four grandchildren Alyssa, Alexa, Nathan and Lucy. The funeral home service will be Friday at 11 am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home. A calling hour will precede the funeral service on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial in St Michaels Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.  The family wishes to thank all the dedicated caregivers from Mercy Hospice and Mercy Companions for the compassionate care they provided.
