Obituary

Joseph "Chip" Mihalski, 79, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1943 in Westfield, MA to Joseph and Shirley (Wagner) Mihalski. He was predeceased in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce (Wigglesworth) Hurst and his daughter, Sarah Rogers. Raised by his mother, who was a strong influence throughout his life, he attended Springfield Public Schools. Chip was a charismatic person, and spent his whole career in the adult beverage industry. Howard Johnson's Lounge, The Red Gertrude, The 21 Lounge, Geraldine's and Mingle's. He spent several years working on the Mississippi Queen and came to love New Orleans during this adventure. He engaged strangers in conversation, made everyone feel welcome, and always tried to be the life of the party. Chip developed many lasting friendships. He enjoyed pool, watching movies on Netflix, cribbage and traveling. He and Joyce loved road trips and frequently visited their "Florida Family" in Cape Coral. He loved to test the kitchens featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" along the way. His last trip was March 2022, when his good friend, Ingrid Bass, served as his driver and co-food critic. After losing several close family members and friends and facing deteriorating eyesight and other health issues he became more introspective. He missed his cribbage games and weekly lunch dates. He enjoyed sitting on a bench in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, listening to the birds and finding peace in his surroundings. Chip had some regrets, but always valued his family and friends. Chip leaves his grandchildren, Patrick, Spencer, and Emily Collins, his son-in-law, Mark Rogers, his former wife, Linda Yelinek and his "bonus family" – Joyce's children, grands and great-grands. There will be a meeting of friends and family on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 3-6pm at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street. Special thanks to Pat Sheehey with whom Chip had entrusted his medical care, and his friend Ingrid Bass. Memorial donations may be made in Chip's memory to Arnold's Rescue, www.arnoldsrescuecenter.com , in Browington, VT. Chip would appreciate helping donkeys and asses, as he admitted that occasionaly, he could act like one.
