Obituary

Joseph D. Rolland, 61, of Feeding Hills was called home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Friday November 23, 2018 in Baystate Medical Center while in the comfort of his family.  He was born in Springfield, September 19, 1957, beloved son of Lionel "Lee" and Alice (McTiernan) Rolland.  Joe lived in West Springfield and then returned to his hometown of Agawam to live with his sister Lisa who was his end of life caretaker.  Joe was a graduate of Agawam High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Western New England College.  In his younger years Joe worked at the Agawam Food Mart where lasting friendships were made.  In his adult life he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.  Joe lived a simple life, wanting nothing more than a good meal, family conversation or a leisurely car ride around the beautiful Towns surrounding Quabbin Reservoir.  Joe had a love of nature and enjoyed all things Agawam.  An avid reader, Joe had a thirst for history and was truly the family's resource for historical information.  Joe is survived by his loving mother Alice, his sisters Lisa Rolland and Michelle Fisher with her husband Scott from North Carolina, Mark Rolland with his wife Cori and Matthew Rolland.  He is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews Jillian, James, Melissa and Matthew Rolland and Scott, Allison and Elisabeth Fisher, along with his uncle Glen Rolland from Florida.  He was predeceased by his father Lionel.  Family and friends are invited to the Liturgy of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills on Saturday December 1, 2018 at Noon followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery.  The Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements and there are no calling hours.  Memorial contributions in Joe's memory can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western Mass, 181 Park Ave, Suite 12, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the N.A.M.I.
