Obituary

Joyce Borsari Cook
1942 – 2016

West Springfield – Joyce (Borsari) Cook, 73, a lifelong resident of West Springfield passed away June 24th surrounded by the family she adored. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ernestine Borsari and a devoted daughter of Jackie Borsari, her second Mom after the passing of her own beloved mother at a young age. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 40 years, Richard in 2005. Joyce spent many years working in the dental field in town, first with Dr. Sady and for many years with Doc Conlin. She made many friends along the way. In her 40's, Joyce started an entirely new career working for the Hampden County Sheriff's Department rising to the rank of Lieutenant, one of the first woman to achieve that level of leadership. She was very proud to be part of the Sheriff's Office and loved working side by side with all of the great people she met there. Joyce was very active in her community. She was a town meeting member for many years and was the first woman elected as a Park and Recreation Commissioner. A natural athlete who loved being on the sports fields with her daughters, grandkids and all the children she coached over the years. Joyce was very proud of her Italian and New England heritage. She cherished her family and was a loving mother to her three daughters, Robin Barker of St. Johns, FL, Karin Willett and her husband Denis of West Springfield and Jennifer Waring and her husband Kenneth of Wilbraham. She was quick to tell you she had the seven best grandchildren in the world and Grammy had a very special relationship with Alexandria, Justin, Nina, Madison, Max, Collin, and Dylan. She also leaves her brothers Andrew "Putt" and Robert Borsari; loving nephews, her many cousins and dear friends. She treasured them all. Her loving heart was devoted to her dog Bailey, her favorite companion. Joyce will be remembered for her generosity, strength and kindness. She had a smile that lit up a room, embraced life and loved with her whole heart. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10:00am followed by burial in Paucatuck Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
