West Springfield – Joyce A. (Cignoni) Saimeri, 89, died peacefully Sunday morning surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born and raised in Springfield, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Cullen) Cignoni and moved to West Springfield in 1964. She met the "love of her life", Salvatore Saimeri, in 1949. Joyce's family was her greatest accomplishment, and she was never happier than when surrounded by them. She worked for the Phone company for many years and retired from Atwood Security. Joyce was a member of the West Springfield Women's Club, volunteered for the Open Pantry and was an active bowler with the Bowling Club. She and her husband spent countless hours in their 1950 Mercury Monterey with the Connecticut Valley Regional Car Club always with Salvatore at the wheel. Her husband of 66 years, Salvatore Saimeri died in 2020. She leaves her children; Joseph Saimeri and his partner Jerelyn Welker, Daniel Saimeri and his wife Patricia "PJ"; Kathleen Caruso and her husband Joseph, Steven Saimeri and his wife Lisa, and Theresa Smith and husband Robert. She also leaves her grandchildren Eric Mengden and partner Briana Melloni, Michael Mengden and partner Ella, Samantha Alfonso and husband James, Mia Abraham and husband Luke, Natalie Parent and husband Justin, Salvatore Saimeri, Olivia Saimeri, Gina Bishop and husband John, Jessica Barrows and husband Joshua, Taylor Saimeri, Morgan Saimeri and fiancé Joseph Bowker, Stephanie Caruso and partner Christopher Hessner, Joseph and Danielle Caruso; 17 great grandchildren (with one on the way); and several nieces and nephews. Bedsides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter Bridged Mengden and husband Albert, and her three sisters Patricia Hansen, June Giacchino and Marylou Steinberg. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Friday at 9:00AM for the Liturgy of Christian Burial followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
